Steam in Bosnia 2010 - 7: Banovici II - Workshops - with goggles! (50 p.)
http://railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33076
During the previous travelogue we visited the workshops of Banovici town in the morning of April 5 2010, at 11 a.m. we returned to the narrow gauge station Oskova and the connecting standard gauge terminus Banovici.
On standard gauge, diesel had been in regular use since November 2009, steam locos only stood by as reserve. Apart from 62-115 (built 1957), 62-677 (built 1960) and 0-8-0 tank engine 144R 03 (Fives Lille #5234 / built 1954), withdrawn from service, we had the single copy 19-12 (0-6-0 / Skoda #1912 / built 1948) at our disposal, and it was heated up for us as a special treat.
"Biblical scenes" took place on the hill opposite the station and were a perfect match for 19-12 on standard gauge tracks below!
The son sat on the car tire - and harrowing was done at a speed no machine could possibly match! To the right you can spot the narrow gauge part, but the steamer had left for a special duty...
All participants reached their peak performance!
Meanwhile the substitute could relax a little.
On the way, looking for narrow gauge steam.
Found - at the uphill end of the station a coal wagon had derailed.
So, 83-158 (Djuro Djakovic # 53 / built 1948, same as 19-12) saw a tiny regular "lineside" operation.
The experienced crew soon put the car on track again.
83-158 with tender of 83-159 (we had found the counterparts last time in the workshop) back at the station water crane.
25-30 (CKD #2530 / built 1949) had been stabled in the background after breaking down the evening before.
My baby steamer has a baby boombox...
The class 83 picked up the derailed wagon.
In the meantime diesel had arrived as well, on this photo you could imagine what the average diesel thinks about its steam comrades... ;-)
The class 25 tender
740-107 also came by, 83-158 shunted the lost car.
740-113 and -107 with a fresh load of coal from the mountains.
A little further towards the 760 mm narrow gauge - standard gauge interchange, down to the left Banovici standard gauge station.
The diesels had done their duties, now 83-158 hauled the train to the facility. Tiny class 720 diesel locos had been tried out for this, but proved too unreliable.
A monstrous task for narrow gauge proportions.
Sadly not much went on, now the interchange facility had broken down.
Proper April weather: sometimes sunny, sometimes showers.
During a sunny spell I explored the standard gauge area for the first time, on the dead-end track below the narrow gauge station the Belgian 0-8-0 was parked.
19-12 took a break, there was no other activity to be spotted.
The facility with station to the left, no more passenger traffic here.
Once again just a damn "little green tank engine", as the Englishmen on the trip used to say. This was soon to change, no worries! ;-)
A former huge loco shed and water crane, class 83 steaming on the hillside.
Back at Oskova 25-30 was shunted by diesel, it almost seemed like both steamers were in service.
The wheel chock quickly fell to the ground (not on the foot).
The class 19 was moving once more, our farmers from before in the background.
Now we moved our base to the standard gauge station Banovici.
Even cat and dog took a break here.
Well, the dispatcher would prefer no pistols, axes (in the middle picture) or handgrenades in his office!
Operations picked up again, in charge was the former Slovenian 732-195, remotorized by CAT.
The convenient thing about photo shunting is that you can (mostly) choose the best time, at 3 p.m. a hole in the clouds started appearing, so off we went - to the next part!

Bravo Roni!
Slike iz mog područja koje ti snimiš i obradiš, djeluju mi kao da su od negdje drugdje... Drugačije, zanimljivije. Nadam se novom susretu, Roni.
